Hermes Reports Lowest Growth in Six Years

From this week’s news, it looks like the BEAR chasing the rest of the luxury industry is hot on the heels of Hermes too…
(Read: Bear Market for Bags)

The company’s growth in its home market over the last 3 months was significantly lower than the previous two quarters, largely the result of decreased consumer activity following the horrificterrorist attack in Paris: 1% vs 8% and 10% respectively. Hermes had originally targeted 10% global growth in 2016 but with these numbers out of France, that seems almost impossible. While handbag sales in large foreign markets like China remain strong, sales of lower priced accessories and scarves were down 7% last quarter. Hermes shares dropped over 5% on the news, the largest intraday drop since December 2014. Revenue in the quarter grew at the slowest rate in six years.

What’s fascinating to me is how little control luxury brands like Hermes can exert over their success in today’s economy. In a fully globalized world, they blow in the wind just like other less prestigious brands. A decade ago, Hermes seemed immune from the vicissitudes of the global economy. Although that is no longer the case, Hermes does have one distinct advantage the others don’t: legacy. No brand is more respected or loved. How it leans on this storied history to propel growth in the upcoming years is the million dollar question…

For Love & Lemons Holiday 2015 Lookbook: Golden Hour Getaway

Hermes

“Golden Hour Getaway” perfectly sums up the For Love & Lemons holiday 2015 lookbook, so the brand couldn’t have chosen a better title. The hauntingly lovely Siberian model Vika Falileeva sported the newest looks, perfectly embodying the target ‘70s vibe the brand wished to portray.

For Love & Lemons Holiday 2015 Lookbook

For Love & Lemons really dug deep into the ‘70s for their new looks, and didn’t stop with the garments, but ran full-on with the styling as well. Some of the garments are a breath of fresh air, with their nod to the culture and fashion, while the hair and accessorizing seems to be pulled straight from the fashion era and stuck on a modern woman. This transition didn’t quite work, and seemed to lack the bridge that would have connected Seventies and modern day fashion trends.

There are some great things being one with the dresses, however. The brand stayed true to their holiday getaway theme, as many of their garments are perfect for a cozy get-together or holiday party. And, of course, the lovely Vika breathed life into the dresses. This addition of her unique on-camera personality added a new dimension to the lookbook.

The For Love & Lemons holiday 2015 dresses are distinctly feminine, as can be expected with the Seventies inspiration, making for an interesting holiday collection. When you think of free-flowing dresses, you’re often inclined to think of the warm, breezy months, but For Love & Lemons has reinvented that idea and gone outside the box to create these light and airy garments for the cold months.

The vast use of prints and colors is the most striking aspect about this simple lookbook. The fabrics even appeared luxe at times, with the perfectly heavy appearance and crisp prints. The white lace dress is one of the most appealing pieces featured, because it portrays the youth and spirit the collection is trying to achieve. But that could just as easily be said about the other dresses in the collection. There is no real misstep with the dresses, and for that we can appreciate the work put into the portrayal. That, along with the casting of Vika Falileeva, was the ultimate saving grace of this lookbook as a whole.

The footwear shown in the photoshoot is hit or miss in this case. The boots were spot on for the time of the year, but the incorporation of socks and sandals erred on the side of cliché. This is a look that doesn’t have much ground in the fashion industry, as it’s a look that can’t be taken too seriously. There’s a childish quality that’s a step below youthful and into the adolescent realm. It’s clear the designers had a vision and a set goal in mind, but the execution could have been taken to a more mature level. This would have helped maintain a level where the line could have been taken a bit more seriously.

PERSISTENT PETA BUYS A SHARE OF HERMÉS TO KEEP A HAWK-EYE WATCH ON ANIMAL TREATMENT

Hermes

hermes
It rattled the fashion industry. PETA showed everyone in the fashion fraternity that not only would they shut out mink stoles and fur coats, but you stick to your words when you promise innocent creatures to see them later, or in a while. Alligator and crocodile farms are patent in the glam industry, but when they meet certain international standards of slaughter (well, you enjoy a meat stew prepared from bleating goats in a slaughter home, don’t you!).

Anyway, if you had been following our trail, you would remember how they got Birkin fans to literally eat their $300,000 arm-candy and how the namesake lashed out at her friends Hermés to stop using her name on their products till they had cleared this ‘bloody’ mess? Well, PETA is not stepping down their march. In order to make sure the dudes at Hermés takes them seriously and end its sale of exotic animal skins. They ought one share so that they can attend the company’s annual meetings and raise any question of doubt.

HERMES BOLIDE MINI BAGS

Hermes

Hermes-Bolide-Mini

The Hermes Bolide Mini Bag is a timeless piece that’s bound to give you an edge when you wear it. Like the brand that started it all, the bag goes a long way – in 1922, the piece was created for the wife of Hermes’s owner Emilie-Maurice Hermès who, at that time, wanted a bag to carry as she rode in a car. The bag was initially named “Bugatti”, as one of the first few pieces ever to incorporate a zipper as its closure.

Now, the prized bag has zapped itself into a mini version – a modern take on a classic favorite. The bag, which has a cotton canvas with waterproof lining and an inside pocket, can serve as a travel case or a neat inner compartment for your valuables. It’s a great way to organize in style! Trust Hermes to give you only the best bag experience you can ever ask for.

Measuring 8.3” x 5.7” inches, you can get your very own Bolide Mini Bag for $385 USD via Hermes e-store.
