Hermès Grooming Bag In Khaki

Hermes

IMAGE: JSK

While not many of us can hold claim to owning horses (and by horses I mean the actual magnificent beasts and not anything from My Little Pony), this is one bag many of us sure wouldn’t mind owning for ourselves. Simply known as the Grooming Bag, part of Hermès’ equestrian line that’s focused on bags one would use whilst tending to their horses (again, I’m referring to the real four-legged animals), I can also see this bag used by both men and women. Besides being available in this stunning shade ofKhaki, it comes with multiple compartments as well.

For starters, there’s the main compartment that comes with a zip pocket and a removable inside pouch that’s also machine-washable. Then there is the additional pair of side pockets (one on each side of the bag) that’s a huge bonus. Made of hard-wearing, water-resistant canvas, the bag, which sports a pair of short top handles, also comes with additional shoulder sling that’s also removable, which all is all is just jaw-droppingly awesome as far as I’m concerned.

Guys can use the bag, which comes printed with the words ‘Hermes Sellier Paris’ printed across it, as an everyday tote great for the gym or quick weekend getaways; the girls can also do the same and/or use it as a diaper bag that’s frankly not too girly-girl, meaning their menfolk will no longer have excuses when asked to help out when baby is out and about.

Priced at USD1975 (which is around SGD2260 after conversion), the only information I’m lacking on this beauty is its actual size, its price in Singapore and if it is even available here. Which just means one thing. I’ll be popping down to Hermès Liat Towers tomorrow, so wish me (and my wallet) luck.

RIGHT NOW, YOU CAN BUY AN HERMÈS CARDBOARD BOX WITH UNKNOWN CONTENTS FOR $11,500

Hermes

If I told you that Hermès is offering an $11,500 one-of-a-kind piece that even hardcore Birkin addicts are having trouble justifying, would you believe me? $11,500 is barely more expensive than a baseline leather Birkin, after all–it’s a number that frequent Hermès shoppers wouldn’t be shocked by. Difficult to believe, right? Especially from a brand whose customers are known for their appreciation of exclusivity. What if I told you that the prospective buyer wouldn’t be told what they’re purchasing before it landed in their hot little hands? Suddenly, it all makes sense.

Hermès has been running a program called Petit h Surprise since mid-2015, in which customers order monthly mystery boxes from its website with no clue what’s inside them. In the past, the boxes have included things like leather charms and small scarves from the brand’s Petite h line, which uses material scraps from the manufacture of the brand’s other accessories to make whimsical, relatively inexpensive trinkets. Usually, the boxes sell out relatively quickly, and thankfully for the curious among us, they’re fully refundable if you don’t like what you got.

The mid-March boxes include two one-of-a-kind releases, though, along with a less expensive box that Hermès made available like normal. The least expensive box sold out, but the two one-of-a-kind options, at $4,525 and$11,500, respectively, are still available. On our PurseForum, Hermès fans have jokingly put out a call for a kind soul with a high credit limit to order one of them and let the group know what it is. As of now, that request has not been fulfilled–both boxes are still available on the brand’s website.

It’s difficult to speculate what either option might be–Hermès has a vast product line, and much of its wares are extremely expensive. Both product descriptions indicate the contents of the boxes are appropriate for both women and men, so it’s somewhat unlikely that either is a bag, even though both prices would be appropriate for one of the brand’s purses.

Hermes Reports Lowest Growth in Six Years

Hermes

Hermes

From this week’s news, it looks like the BEAR chasing the rest of the luxury industry is hot on the heels of Hermes too…
(Read: Bear Market for Bags)

The company’s growth in its home market over the last 3 months was significantly lower than the previous two quarters, largely the result of decreased consumer activity following the horrificterrorist attack in Paris: 1% vs 8% and 10% respectively. Hermes had originally targeted 10% global growth in 2016 but with these numbers out of France, that seems almost impossible. While handbag sales in large foreign markets like China remain strong, sales of lower priced accessories and scarves were down 7% last quarter. Hermes shares dropped over 5% on the news, the largest intraday drop since December 2014. Revenue in the quarter grew at the slowest rate in six years.

What’s fascinating to me is how little control luxury brands like Hermes can exert over their success in today’s economy. In a fully globalized world, they blow in the wind just like other less prestigious brands. A decade ago, Hermes seemed immune from the vicissitudes of the global economy. Although that is no longer the case, Hermes does have one distinct advantage the others don’t: legacy. No brand is more respected or loved. How it leans on this storied history to propel growth in the upcoming years is the million dollar question…

PERSISTENT PETA BUYS A SHARE OF HERMÉS TO KEEP A HAWK-EYE WATCH ON ANIMAL TREATMENT

Hermes

hermes
It rattled the fashion industry. PETA showed everyone in the fashion fraternity that not only would they shut out mink stoles and fur coats, but you stick to your words when you promise innocent creatures to see them later, or in a while. Alligator and crocodile farms are patent in the glam industry, but when they meet certain international standards of slaughter (well, you enjoy a meat stew prepared from bleating goats in a slaughter home, don’t you!).

Anyway, if you had been following our trail, you would remember how they got Birkin fans to literally eat their $300,000 arm-candy and how the namesake lashed out at her friends Hermés to stop using her name on their products till they had cleared this ‘bloody’ mess? Well, PETA is not stepping down their march. In order to make sure the dudes at Hermés takes them seriously and end its sale of exotic animal skins. They ought one share so that they can attend the company’s annual meetings and raise any question of doubt.
